Hylton George Davis

Upbringing Prior to their father's death, Hylton's grandmother Anne Jane Moore went to Rhodesia to care for Hylton and his sister Cynthia. On the death of their father Jane took the children by train to the Transkei where Hylton was brought up by his uncle Robert Reeves Davis and Cynthia was brought up by her aunt Annie Margaret Davis and Joachim Frederich Jacobsen.

Hylton died a bachelor. Since leaving school he had been employed by WNLA , recruiting labour for South African Mines and had spent many years in Stegi, Swaziland and Lilongwe in Malawi/Nyasaland. He was transferred to Johannesburg and retired to Pietermaritzburg where Cynthia was then living.
