OBITUARY - Mrs. Ida Brown (found in the "Reese Reunion" booklet)
March 14, 1932
Ida Ellen Reese, daughter of F. J. and Rebecca C. Reese, was born in Pine Creek Township, September 19, 1886, and departed this life March 14, 1932 at the age of 65 years, 5 months, and 25 days. Her early marriage with Abraham H. Brown, who preceded her in death in 1925. To this union were born two daughters, Mrs. J. J. Conley and Mrs. A. E. Jones, both of Chicago, who survive their mother. Four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, also remain to mourn her passing. Mrs. Brown was one of a family of fifteen children, six sisters surviving, being Mrs. William Guynn of Grand Detour, Mrs. John Warner, Mrs. Ada Teeter, and Mrs. Elsworth Shafer, all of Dixon. Mrs. George Bain of Stillman Valley and Mrs. Dessa Finn of Chicago. This is the first break in the circle of seven devoted sisters. Of the eight brothers, there preceded her in death, being Clinton, John, and Alfred. Remaining brothers are Charles of Sycamore, William of Elgin, and Foster, Lester, and Everett, all of Dixon. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
The life record of Mrs. Brown is one of devotion to the interests of her family and friends. She was a woman of great energy and rare capability, unswerving in her care and sacrifice for those dependent upon her. Her husband was for many years an invalid and she cared for him tenderly and well and still found good works. Her counsel to members of her family was at all times thoughtful and wise, and she will be greatly missed.
Several month ago, following an operation she became seriously ill and was removed to the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. E. Jones, where both daughters and also her sisters cared for her devotedly until the time of her death.
He patience in her great suffering and the cheerful spirit she demonstrated will be a source of inspiration and comfort to her sorrowing family.
Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Grand Detour Thursday afternoon at two-thirty. Rev. Barnett officiating with interment in the Grand Detour cemetery.
