About Ida Ellis
This was written by Francesca Bluementhal 2009
IDA ABRAMS ELLIS, our grandmother. Born 1876. Died 1936.
Hair so long she could sit on it, but worn in a bun. A "Saint" according to my mother and Charlotte. "Always singing." Baking every Friday, when much of the family and some of their friends would gather at the dining room table. I was allowed to help her in the kitchen with the fun things. Ida was born in the same hometown in Russia as her husband Israel. She came to USA at age 10 in 1886. Israel boarded at her house as a teenage law student. Eventually they married. Conspired with Charlotte to let her take dancing lessons. I was 5 when she died. Spent much of my time at her nearby house. My little friends were on that block. I remember her as cheerful.
