Isaac Gerritsen (Blauvelt), the 11th child of Gerrit Hendricksen (Blauvelt) and Marritie Lambertse (Moll), bapt. Jan. 27, 1666 at the Reformed Dutch Church at present-day New York City, NY. He d. after Jan. 1740 at Rockland County, NY.

Because of his age in 1682, Isaac was not one of the original Tappan patentees that included many of his older brothers and brothers-in-law, and he is not listed as having taken the Oath of Allegiance in 1687.

Isaac is enumerated in the July 1702 Orange County, NY census (i.e., that part now Rockland County) as "Isake Gerissen," with his wife Mary, and one male child. Only one known child, this son, was born of Maria, and who is known to have existed solely by this 1702 census. However, the child apparently did not reach maturity.

In 1704 Isaac purchased a part of the interest in the Tappan patent that fell to his nine year older brother Huybert, who was deceased by June 7, 1704. On the latter date, the remainder of brother Huybert's land was distributed to his direct heirs. By this purchase from Huybert, Isaac shared in the second division of the Tappan patent lands, by which he received an additional 101 acres. In 1707 he purchased another 120 acres out of the share held by Claus Manuel.

Isaac is enumerated in the 1712 census of Orangeburg, now Orangetown, Rockland, NY, in which he was stated as the head of a family, owned two slaves, but had no male child or children age 16 or older separately named and enumerated. (George Budke's 1930s assignment of the name Gerrit to the unnamed son in the 1702 census has never been proved as correct).

Isaac served in various civil capacities and in 1724 he was a Captain of a militia company in that part of Orange now Rockland County, NY. When and where Isaac died or where he is interred is unknown. He died sometime after Feb. 17, 1740, the date his last child, daughter Marretje, was baptized at the Tappan Reformed Dutch Church without Isaac stated as being deceased.

On June 2, 1693, Isaac m. 1) his step-sister Marretje (Maria) Pieterse VanNorden, dau. of Pieter Wesselsen VanNorden and Josyntje Jan Thomas, bapt. Feb. 25, 1674 at the Reformed Dutch Church at present-day New York City, NY. In some electronic transciptions of their marriage, Isaac and Marretje's entry is followed by the astericked word *Sailor, which is an error. The asterick refers to a prior marriage entry in which the word "Matroos", Dutch for sailor, is referenced but the translation is placed on the line following Isaac and Maria's marriage entry.

Isaac and Maria had the one known child alluded to above, but who died young, and when Marretje died is unknown. She was living on June 12, 1714 when Isaac and "Marytie VanNorden his wife" were sponsors at the baptism of a child of Jurrie Marens.

By early 1724, Isaac m. 2) Saartje (Sarah) VanSchywen, dau. of Wouter Willem (VanSchywen) and Divertje Jan (VanBlarcom), b. circa 1695 at Acquackanonck, Essex County, NJ. She d. after Apr 28, 1755 at Rockland County, NY. They had the following eight children of record b. at Tappan, Rockland County, NY and the basis of the continuation of this line of the Blauvelt family:

Sept. 20 (bp Oct. 11), 1741 at Tappan, NY. She d. in 1824 at Franklin Twp, Bergen County, NJ (g.s.). Ten children of the family.

• viii. Marritje Blauvelt, b. Jan. 13, 1740; m. by 1759, Bernardus Vervalen, s. Bernardus Vervalen and Jannetje Vanderbeek, b. Oct. 30, 1737. He d. Apr. 20, 1820 at Old Tappan, Bergen County, NJ. Four children of the family.

[1] At this era the formality of a Dutch family's identification in the Dutch speaking community would have identified this child as Isaac Isaacsen (Isaac, son of Isaac), not specifically as Isaac Blauvelt, with his next born sister as Maria Isaacse (Maria, dau. of Isaac).
