MEMORIAL PHOTOS 1 FLOWERS 2 Isaac Horton, son of Abraham Horton, Sr., was born in 1763 in Bucks Co., Pennsylvania. Before the War for American Independence broke out, along with his parents and siblings he moved to northwest North Carolina. There he entered the service of his country in 1780 as part of the Surry County, North Carolina Militia. Isaac returned to Surry County for two years after the Revolutionary War. From there he moved to Spartanburg, South Carolina for two years. He then moved to Pendleton, South Carolina, where he married South Carolina native, Mary Ann Green, daughter of Lucretia Franklin and Meshach Green, and settled down there for some 30 years. The Pendleton District, which once included Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens Counties, attracted the well-to-do from the Low Country as well as upland farmers. Isaac lived there until after 1810 when his last known child was born. The known children of Isaac and Mary Ann Green Horton are: Name Birth/Death Spouse 1. Nancy 1790-1 June 1864 Robert Smith, Sr. 2. Stephen 1794-bef. 1850 Martha ____ 3. Daniel 1796-bef 1860 Mary "Polly" East 4. Thomas G.14 Nov 1799-1859 Nicey Nelson 5. In 1850 Isaac was a retired farmer. His wife Mary Ann was also at his side. They lived between son Thomas G. and Nicey Nelson Horton and grandson Abram and Mary Ann Horton in the Sugar Hill area of Gwinnett County, Ga. He probably died in 1854. The exact burial site is unknown, but it is believed to be in the Sugar Hill area. On 17 December 1982 a bronze memorial marker was dedicated to Isaac Horton at the Sugar Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Buford, Gwinnett County, Georgia. Sponsored by the DAR, Philadelphia Winn Chapter and the Gwinnett Hisorical Society, the plaque was dedicated by John Hood and Dewey Melton of the Historical Society and Sally Sue Crawford of the DAR. The plaque reads: "Isaac Horton - Continental Line - Revolutionary War 1763-1854." It was ordered by one of Isaac Horton's descendants, Gwinnett Historical Society member, Howard Horton of Sherman, Texas. The marker is a fitting tribute to the Revolutionary War soldier.
