About Isaac Sansom, SV/PROG 2
https://www.1820settlers.com/genealogy/getperson.php?personID=I135324&tree=master'''
Isaac married Maria Stride at Boldre on 27 June 1824. Maria was born at Boldre in 1800, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Stride. At the time of their marriage, Isaac was an agricultural labourer, but two years later, in 1826, he joined the 27th Regiment of Foot at Gosport, Hampshire. From records held at the National Archives at Kew, we know he was 6ft tall, with light brown hair, blue eyes and a fresh complexion. His military service took him to Jersey, Barbados and Ireland, before his regiment was sent to the Cape of Good Hope in 1835. He obtained a free discharge from the army at Cape Town on 31 December 1840.
At the time of his children’s baptisms in Grahamstown, Isaac was described as a shoemaker at Fort England. In 1864 he was recorded as being the holder of an urban plot in King William’s Town, and in 1870 is listed in a directory as living in Cambridge Road, KWT. It seems he also farmed near KWT – the 1878 Voters Roll lists him as resident at Farm No.16. Isaac died at the Cambridge Road house, though the Burial Register gives his abode as “Thorn Country”, perhaps the name of the farm. His date of death is not known, but he was buried in KWT cemetery from the Holy Trinity Anglican Church on 17 May 1878. After Isaac’s death, Maria went to live at Chalumna, possibly with one of her children. She died there in 1881 and was buried in KWT cemetery from the Holy Trinity Church on 19 December that year.
