About Isaac Wade, Sr.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION: Isaac Wade enlisted in the 14th Virginia regiment of volunteers in 1777. He fought in the battles of Germantown and Brandywine.

James Peters submitting this from memory...
I grew up in Vinton, Virginia. James Tazewell Wade was my great-grandfather, and his daughter Corrie Wade was my grandmother, deceased before I was born. They lived in a two story brick house where the Carilion Clinic is now on corner of Pollard Street and Cleveland Avenue in Vinton. There is a book called something like The Wades of Virginia which is in the Virginia state library in Richmond which was written by a distant cousin I have never met. They will transfer it to any library in the state, or maybe they have digitized it by now. My dad photocopied it 25-ish years ago and I have a hard copy of it somewhere... As I recall, Isaac Wade's widow applied for a military pension after Isaac's death but the army had no records of his service, which was not uncommon. The process to validate the claim was to have three people (friends/neighbors?) testify as to when Isaac left, when he returned, and some stories he told.

Here is a transcript of the depositions:

I have been to the Wade Cemetery some 20+ years ago and at the time the land was owned by a family named Woodford. There is a DAR monument at the site, and at the time, the cabin was still there from the 1700s in remarkably good shape. I can't remember how I got in touch with the Woodfords, who lived a few miles away. They were very friendly and allowed us to visit the site which is a hundred yards or so off the road.
