A mistake was made in the transcript of the information on the head stone, it is written Stella instead of Isabella due to the fact that part of the inscription is missing.

Grahamstown Journal 1844 - 1 - January to March Written by Sue Mackay. Posted in The Grahamstown Journal Thursday 22 February 1844 DIED at Port Elizabeth on the 12th instant at the residence of Mr. W. PATTINSON, Isabella ROSS, relict of the late Mr. James ROSS, aged 63 years, deeply regretted by her relations and friends.

Isabella Lamont's mother's name, her sister and brother's and hers are mentioned in Patrick Colquhoun b.14 Mar 1745 and died 25 Apr 1820 Will. He was a Scottish merchant, statistician, magistrate and founder of the first regular preventive police force in England, the Thames River Police. And he was the brother of Isabella's mother Mary. He states that he is leaving money to his only surviving sister Mary and to her daughter, his niece Isabella the wife of James Ross residing in the Cape Of Good Hope. Also to his niece Mary Ann and nephew John.
