Israel D. Godfrey

Picture taken in Brick Church Cemetery in Windsor Twp., Morgan Co., Ohio near Stockport. Israel D. was the oldest child of Samuel B. & Catharine Ellison Godfrey. He served in the Civil War Co. D 97th O.V.I 1840-1865. He served time in the Libby prison of the Confederacy.

Inscription on headstone reads, "Israel D. Godfrey Son of S.B.& C. Godfrey. Died March 5, 1863.

Israel the oldest child of Samuel and Catherine Godfrey. He serve in the Civil war , he was also a prisoner of war , He was never married. When he came home from the war he was walking barefoot and very sick, died soon after.
