Patriarch Deacon Izet Nathaniel McCalla, Esq Sunrise: 31 May 1017
Sunset: 3 Mar 2012 Ludford Mount Baptist Church Bois Content Internment: family plot

Deacon Izet McCalla was born on 31 May 1917 in Joe Ground, Clarendon. He was one of fourteen children born to Alfred McCalla and Christiana Thomas McCalla, all of whom have predeceased him.

Izet attended the Bellas Gate Primary School from which he graduated in the sixth grade. Izet left Bellas Gate as a young man and went to live in Longsville, Clarendon. He was baptized in his early teens by the Rev Joslyn Leo Rhynie in Bellas Gate.

He met his future bride and lifetime partner, Lena Richards McCalla in 1938. They wed and lived in Longsville, prior to moving to Woman Pond district in Bois Content, where they had fourteen children. Izet travelled to the United States in 1944 as a Farm Worker and in 1977 he migrated to New York to join his wife Lena who had migrated three years earlier.

Izet and Lena returned to their home in Bois Content, Jamaica, in 1984 where they resided until his death in the morning of 3 March 2012, after a brief illness.

In addition to his love for farming, which he did until a few years before his death at the age of 94 years, Izet was a Civic and Community Leader. He served as President of the Bois Content PTA Chairman of the Board, and Deacon of the Ludford Mount Baptist Church for many years.

Izet was the architect and lead builder of the current Ludford Mount Baptist Church. The original building had received major damage during a storm.

Izet was a counselor and confidante to many who sought his counsel and a reference to many more. He received many awards and commendations over the years but one of the most treasured was the naming of the McCalla House at Bois Content Primary School in his honour and the establishment of the Izet and Lena McCalla Scholarship Fund at the Bois Content Primary School.

Izet is survived by his loving wife and lifetime partner, Lena, sons and daughters - Leslie, Catherine, Stanley, Ralph, John, Fred, Bertram, Gilmore, Robert, Venta, Cyrus, Donald, Anthony and Janet, and 36 grandchildren including Jason who cared for him until his death and 21 great-grand children, many sons and daughters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Papa, Grandpa, Mass Tom, we love and miss you. May you rest in eternal piece.
