OBITUARY: (Salt Lake Tribune – June 28, 1992)
DELTA-- Joseph Lathel Callister, age 82, died June 26, 1992.
Born July 4, 1909 in Burtner, Utah (Delta), to Joseph Platt and Sarah Elizabeth Christensen Callister. He
married Margaret Church, April 7, 1931, later solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple. Graduated from Delta High School. He was a successful farmer and stockman. Active member of the LDS Church, served as bishop on 2 different occasions. Member of the Deseret Stake High Council for many years. He was very involved in the sport programs in the community and church, especially active in the softball program. Very capable catcher, playing until he was 50 years old. He and his wife Margaret served a mission for the LDS Church in the South Dakota Mission. He served as Region Welfare Agent for the church.
Survived by wife, of Delta; sons, daughters and their spouses: Sheldon and Dorothy, of Ogden; Mrs. Woody (Maralyn) Wood, San Andreas, Calif.; Raymond and Jennie, of Riverside, Calif.; Robert and Sandra, of Ogden; Mrs. Mark (Chloeen) Bybee, Panguitch; Mrs. Martin (Katherine) Wistisen, Richland, Wash.; Mrs. Douglas (JoAnn) Miles, Altamont; Neuman and Judy, of Bountiful; Lyndon and Susan, of Delta; Kent and Carla, of South Jordan; Jerry and Susan, Sandy; Von and Maurine, Sandy; Neil and Julie, of Deseret; Mrs. James (Pamela) Wheeler, Garrison; Mrs. Darrell (Patricia) Callison, Rolette, Texas; Mrs. Tom (Elizabeth) Galeski, Parowan; 81 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, brother, Anthony C. Callister, of Delta.
Funeral services, Tuesday, 11 a.m., Delta 3rd Ward. Friends may call at the Nickle Mortuary, Monday 7-8 p.m. and at the church Tuesday 10 -10:45 a.m. Burial, Delta Cemetery.
