Jose de la Cruz Vicente Soto Alvarado was born in San Felipe, Guanajuato around 1868. What makes the research in Mexico confusing is that the name an individual is given at birth changes a lot when that person immigrates to the United States. It is usually shortened; hence, Jose, or just Cruz. It has come to my understanding that this Great grandfather was known by both names. He was also a ladies man, according to a very reliable source, and probably fathered many children in the south texas area. According to birth records, it lists his father as Jose Soto, his mother as Bibiana Pioquinta Melendez. Jose de la Cruz Soto apparently did marry Ignacia Palacios somewhere in San Miguel Allende, Guanajuato, Mx. She was the real mother of his son, Othon. There were other sons mentioned, Crecencio, Pedro, Mariano, and a daughter, Guadalupe. It's not for sure if they were all birthed by Ignacia, or a previous wife we had heard thru family stories that died in childbirth.
