About Jabez Metcalf
This the second of two ancestors who fought in the American Revolutionary War. While it does not "pay" to brag about this connection overmuch on O'ahu, if a cousin lives on the mainland, especially on the East Coast,....it might be a valuable thing to share with acquaintances,... specially trusted to "know."
Go for it. All of it. Lptm

This is, according to man-made documents....my great (5 X's) Ontai/Metcalf grandfather.
Any Ontai-Metcalf cousin or even living siblings would cite this kupuna of old as proof that they can join the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution.
I am proud to say he fought in the Lexington militia under Captain John Parker with 144 initial men standing up to the redcoats,....and a reported Running Total of 1735 fighting men. The title for this report was: Militia company by location in Battle..."Parker's Revenge" Site. Source: page 354, Igniting the American Revolution: 1773-1775 by Derek W. Beck. Date: 19 April 1775. Cost: $29.69; I got it for $24.29 plus tax at Barnes and Noble in Ala Moana Shopping Center on O'ahu...Honolulu, Hawaii...USA.
Responses/corrections/additions are welcome. Lptm
TO MY KNOWLEDGE: This book gives the best blow-by-blow description of the battles...in minutiae. Lptm
This grandpa died in Naples, New York. My husband visited his town recently; had a wonderful time. I now have a "Welcome" stained-glass plaque in my diningroom from a store in that town. Sooooo sweet. Lptm
This grandpa and his son, John Irving Metcalf ....never made their way to Hawaii, but John's son with Lucinda...did. That was my great great great grandfather, Theophilus Sabin Meka Metcalf, I....who came to Lahaina, Maui, settled on O'ahu, Hawaii and had a plantation on the Keawe's Big Island of Hawai'i...1842 to August 1866.
Grandpa Theo married one ali'i chiefess of Kukaniloko and her younger sister. He had two daughters from the first wife and two daughters and one son with the second wife.
Research is ongoing. I welcome responses, for I search for Truth.
I am the great great granddaughter of Theo's one-and-only Hapa Haole/Hawaiian son, Frank K. Metcalf, I. A document recently re-issued to my line certifies that grandpa Frank's oldest daughter with his one-and-only legally married wife, Alice Alika Forsyth Metcalf,... was my great grandmother, Ida Kawaihonau Metcalf.
Grandma Ida left her Metcalf estate to the state of Hawai'i, not wanting her descendants to profit by land/the aina originally meant for the kanaka maoli. Reason: She had been in the midst of too much chaos and turmoil outside and inside of courtrooms from her birth (1871) to her death (1958). Where there is land and money to be claimed, family members often summoned each other into court... to press their claims to the disadvantage of others.
Some won; many lost. Grudges ensued that still linger today in the shadows.
At least that is my understanding at this time. Lptm
I do not really welcome connecting with Metcalf Ohana relations on the mainland, because a kupuna warned me not to. "They will not welcome acknowledging part-Hawaiian relations. Theo liked non-Caucasian women and got into trouble for that."
At least that was what was whispered to me when I was a child. Lptm
