Biography

Jabez was born in Hingham Mar 1657/58.

He married Mary Ford.

He died 24 May, 1731, about 73 yrs.

Constable 1687, and 1700.

Resided on the paternal homestead, Main Street, South Hingham.

In his will of 5 June, 1728, proved 29 June, 1731, gives "to my wife Mary the use and improvement of J of my estate, both real and personal, during her natural life. To son Jabez the new dwelling-house on the side of the highway at South Hingham; "mentions a black oak-tree " standing on the boundary line between Ephraim's homestead and mine;" bequeaths also " to sons Edward and Theophilus, and to daughters Mary Slaughter [Slader], Sarah Loring, Leah Wilder, and Kezia Wilder, each £100." The inventory of his estate appraised Aug. 12, 1731, includes in a long list of personal property, books, arms, gold plate, hour-glass, side-saddle, pillion, 7 sdp (?) of bees, loom, and weaving-tackle, 7 oxen, 6 cows, 3 steers three-yr.-old, 6 fat cattle, 2 two-yr.-olds, 4 of one yr. old, 5 calves, 32 sheep, 1 horse, 1 mare, swine, etc.
