Jack Edward Nolde

Jack E. Nolde attended Hutchinson Junior College for one year and then went to Fort HaysState Teachers College for a semester. He then went to work for the Oregon Shipbuilding Corp.of Portland, Oregon for one year. He enlisted in the Navy December, 1942. After several monthsof electronic training, he was assigned to Night Fighter Group No.104. He married Anita Mankeof Kinsley on April 27, 1944 at Groton, Conn. while he was stationed at Westerly, Rhode Island.He was transferred to Hawaii in August, 1944 to be assigned to an aircraft carrier. His group wasformed into Air Group No. 90 and was aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Enterprise, Christmas Eve.1944. He served in the South Pacific at the Philippines, Okinawa, Japan, and Iwo Jima. When thecarrier was damaged, they returned to the US on June 4, 1945. He finished his service in an air-sea rescue group out of Jacksonville, Florida. He was discharged on November 10, 1945 andreturned to Kinsley to farm.
