About Jacob Thomas Blackshear

Husband of Emma Elizabeth "Betty" Curtis Blackshear. Son of Thomas "Jacob" and Martha Jane Curtis Blackshear. Obituary of Jacob Thomas Blackshear from the Leonard Graphic News

A TRIBUTE TO MEMORY OF J. T. BLACKSHEAR

On Thursday of last wee, April 28, at 2:50 a. m., God saw fit to remove from this world of suffering and sorrow our beloved daddy, to his home on high, where he had prayed and longed to see the time come for his call.

The world indeed seems empty and cheerless without Dad, and in our hearts there is a dreary, dismal, aching void. Every sound that strikes our ears has in it a cadence of despair, but 'twill only be a little while until we shall cross the dark river and join Daddy among the host of the saved on the other shore. Daddy had been in ill health the past four years. Well, it might be said the past forty-seven years, as his eyesight has been almost gone for the above stated time. But the past twelve months have been endured with untold agony. Thanks to our Heavenly Father that poor, worn frame will never be racked with the agonies of pain. Suffering is at an end. I have many times stood by his bedside to see him suffer pains no one could relieve, but the One who doeth all things well, and I have prayed that he might go in ease. Many times I have heard him utter wonderful prayers to God asking Him to call him home. And his last words were, "Thanks to God for all blessing," and "I'm walking with the Savior." How sad to give one up so humble, noble and pure as my precious Dad. He was one who never complained or his suffering nor of anything anyone did for him. He was always pleased with what was done for him more than he. As long as he was blind I never heard him complain. He was always willing to do what ever he could.

Jacob Thomas Blackshear was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on August 18, 1864. He was married to Emma E. Curtis on December 4, 1881. To this union was born fourteen children, 9 of whom survives. His wife also survives. He obeyed the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was baptized in August 1904, by Elder J. B. Loshlee. Never have I known a truer Christian than he. Always ready and willing to serve God in every respect.

The surviving children are: C. M. Blackshear of Paris, Texas; R. L. Blackshear of Wellington, Texas; James, E. C. and W. H. Blackshear all of Leonard, Texas; Mrs. J. J. Powell of Bynum, Texas; Mrs. E. L. Ellis of Henderson, Texas; Mrs. W. T. Murley of Leonard, Texas and Minnie Blackshear at home. A host of grandchildren survive.

Funeral services were held from the Leonard Church of Christ, Elder C. D. Record delivering the funeral sermon. The remains were laid to rest in the Grove Hill Cemetery.

"Farewell, dear daddy, sweet thy rest,

Weary with years and worn with pain; Farewell, till in some happy place
We shall behold thy face again.
Tis ours to miss thee all our years,
And tender memories of thee keep,
Thine in the Lord to rest for so,
He giveth His beloved sleep."* Reference: [https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/19065938/jacob-thomas-blackshear Find A Grave Memorial] - [https://www.geni.com/projects/SmartCopy/18783 SmartCopy]: ''Apr 23 2020, 2:59:27 UTC''
