Elayne Gibbons received a picture from Glen Shipman with ages that shows Josie to be 20 years younger than Jacob. (recieved 1 FEB 2000).

Additional information from Sue Rees, received 22 AUG 2000. Sue Rees is the grandaughter of Nathan William Gartman. Josephine E. Sechrist was his step-mother. Jacob Gartman was the 6th son and 9th child of Eri Phillip Gartman, Jr. and Sarah Riley.

In 24 AUG 2000 note, Sue Rees adds: Jacob Gartman was a "Hard Shell" Baptist minister. And, correcting an error in my transcibing her notes from the 21/22 AUG: Jacob Gartman was the man with the land patent filed 11 Oct 1909 in Lawton. (Originally accredited to John A. Rodgers.)

Additional information from Sue Rees, received 22 AUG 2000. Sue Gartman is the grandaughter of Nathan William Gartman. Josephine E. Sechrist was his step-mother. Spelling of last name corrected from Rogers to Rodgers from a second note, same date. At that time, Sue included DOB and marriage date. Sue writes: "Lela and her daughter have been trying to trace John Rodgers' movements after he left OK when Lela and Bertha were very small children. Aunt Dicie had heard rumors that John had remarried and had another family. Lela would like to contact siblings if possible. We had traced a John Rodgers of the correct birthday and found him deceased 4/29/1975 in Alvin Brazoria TX. A letter to the SSA elicited his application which stated that his parents were William Joseph Rodgers and Lillie Eliza Hart and that he was born in Hico TX. His address 6/6/1938 was 1133 Austin Street, San Antonio TX.

John Arbuckel Rodgers - I had a hard time with this one too. According to his SSA application, this is the way he spelled his name. It convinced me that this is the right man - Lela remembered the odd spelling of Arbuckel as well. His last name was spelled this way in the Greer CO OK marriage index when he married Dicie as well. Lela has always spelled her maiden name with a "d."
