About Jacob Schlachter
Jacob ran a mattress factory in Vrededorp, Johannesburg. David S. can remember visiting there, although I do remember my Dad (George) say that Jacob used to trapse the streets of Jhb selling the mattresses off a cart!
Jacob Schlachter and Joseph Borwein (Brother of Rebecca - Jacob's wife) can out to S.A. from Ponevez in about 1929. The two families followed in 1930. Jacob died on the 22nd Feb,1942 (he was only 51 tears old) and Becky took over the running of the factory. It has since come to my attention that it might have been a pillow factory.
Jacob and Becky (with Max and George) and Granny Rascha Borwein lived at 63 Saunders Street, Yeoville opposite Bessie's house.
