About Jacob Strobel

Jacob Strobel son of Jacob Strobel Sr. and Dore (nee) Hahn, was born July 30, 1863 in Beresina, Russia. At the age of 17 he came to America and lived in and around Menno, S.D., five years.
In 1890 he moved to Colorado and homesteaded northwest of Bethune. On Jan. 8, 1893, he was married to Katharina Dobler. This union was blessed with four sons and one daughter.
The Strobels retired from farming, their life-time occupation, in 1954 and lived in Burlington the remaining years. Mr. Strobel enjoyed good health all his life except the last three years when arthritis, a broken hip and other ailments gave him considerable discomfort and finally led to his death Aug. 11, 1958, at the Denver General hospital, where he sought help and relief. His life span was 90 years and 12 days.
Mr. Strobel was a conscientious Christian and expressed it in being a good neighbor. His loyalty and faithfulness to his church was demonstrated by regular attendance, cooperation in progress and supporting worthwhile undertakings with word and deed. Humility and sincerity were not only words in his vocabulary, they were virtues to be practiced in everyday life. Those who learned to know him during his long life will long remember him as a true friend, and one who stood for the best in community life.
Mourning the passing of their father are: the Rev. Theodore C. Strobel, Lodi, Calif.; John, of El Cerrito, Calif.; Albert , Burlington, and Emil of Bethune. The one daughter of the family preceded her father in death in 1936 and Mrs. Strobel in 1956. One brother John of Portland, Ore. and one sister, Mrs. Carolina Baltzer. of Bismark, N. D., survive their brother. There are 14 grandchildren and 11 great grand children who will miss Grandpa Strobel.
The grandchildren who acted as pallbearers are: Calvin, Alvin, Arnold and Leland Strobel; Ted Schaal and the Rev. Herbert Schaal.
