Jacob Swisher OBituary
Stuart Locomotice (Stuart, Iowa), Friday 19 may 1899, Page 7, Col 4, State Historical Library, Des Moines, Iowa
Monday Evening without warning, Jacob Swisher passed away. He had been in his usual health during the day and had been down town and an hour before had been at a nieghborn's house. He was sitting in his rocking chair when he simply ceased to breath.
Mrs. Swisher moved to this city from Greenfield, where he resided many years. A few weeks ago, he had bought a property and had been busily engaged all the spring, improving his home.
The funeral services conducted by Rev Griffith of the M. E. Church, assisted by Rev Dyre, were held at the residence at 4:oo Wednesday evening. The remains were tken to Greenfield for interment, where another member of the family is already buried. The deceased was but little known in this city, having been here but a short time, but those who have known him in his former home speak of him as a man of sturdy integrity and upright life.
Jacob Swisher was born in Franklin County, PA, October 15, 1932 and died May 15, 1899. He was married to Cathrine Zook, who survives him. And from this union there has been thirteen children, of which 10 are still living and present at his funeral. In 1863 he professed faith in the Brethern of Christ Church.
Information from Stephen L. Law, from oral history taken from Adah johanna Swisher of Des Moines, Iowa, that Jacob Swisher changed his name from Schweitzer/Switzer to Swisher. He was Pennsylvania Dutch.
