Buurman van Zyl was also a fantastic athlete and was a member of the Olympic Team for South Africa as "Spiesgooier" javelin in 1936. He was a world wide renowned rugby coach, administrator and served for 15 years as vice president for the SA Rugby Board and 27 years as member of the international Rugby board.
