SUDDEN SUMMONS
FOR MR. JAS. A. SLAUGHTER, ONE OF DANVILLE'S MOST ESTEEMED AND RESPECTED CITIZENS.
Our people were startled by the announcement of the sudden death of Mr. Jas. A. Slaughter, one of our most esteemed citizens, on Tuesday night last, the 11th. Mr. Slaughter had been in failing health for some time, and was suffering with Bright's disease. He was born in Logan County, Ky., on Sept. 11, 1834, and had almost rounded out his 69th year. He united with the Baptist church at eleven years of age, and was always a faithful, devoted, upright member ready and willing in the performance of all duties devolving upon him, and at the time of his death was filling the office of both Deacon and Trustee. In his family relations he was kind, indulgent, and as gentle as a woman. His devoted wife, and one daughter, Mrs. D. W. Mahan, survive him, and have the sympathy of the whole community in this their great loss. Funeral services will be held at the Baptist church on tomorrow (Thursday) at 3 p. m., followed by interment in Bellevue cemetery.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Dec 4 2022, 9:22:03 UTC
