James Bentley Roberts was married first to Elizabeth Conner who had died by 1830. Later, he married his housekeeper, Phoebe who came from a Quaker family in Delaware Co, PA. Son James B. was by the first wife but was quite young when Phoebe became his stepmom and he stayed with his dad and stepmom. However, several older daughters were less happy with the situation and had moved out by the time of the 1850 census. James B. Roberts was a shoemaker. His son-in-law who married one of his older daughters was a shoemaker as well, possibly having worked for or with JBR. Two of his children by Phoebe were born in Belair, Harford co., Maryland (Permar and John A) so its possible there were relatives there to aid in Phoebe's " laying in". I suspect they were related thru the Roberts side . According to Walter Scott Roberts, son of John A Roberts, John Allison Roberts (son of James B) was born in Belair, Hartford co, Maryland. I have found some Roberts families in Harford Co Maryland and some are linked to Quaker Roberts 'in Pennsylvania...and there may have been some movements back and forth between these which could help establish familal ties..but I need more to conclude anything ..yet.
