About James Nathaniel Billington
From historical documents we learn that there was a James Billington in Newark as early as the 1740s. He was a schoolmaster, and called upon to write and witness legal documents. I suspect he was so used because he likely was one of few, among the Dutch, who could both read and write English. Many researchers accept him as the father of Ezekiel. He had a daughter named America and this name is repeated in a kin of Ballard County, Kentucky. The author of Hardy Billington's bio-sketch says that Ezekiel's father came with his parents from England at age 15. It is a bit confusing, but it is accepted that it is the arrival date of this family of Billingtons. Ezekiel had brothers and sisters as you will see from his family chart.
