He is listed in the "DAR Patriot Index" as a soldier from Pennsylvania: Soldier in Illinois Regiment Family tradition recalls he was killed by a falling tree while clearing land on his homestead. He is reputed to be the first man to "own" land west of the Allegheny River, settling in what is now modern day Pittsburg in about 1760. Wife: Martha Elliot
