About James Bulloch

The Hon. James Bulloch b 1701 Glascow Scotland arr SC 1729 d 25 Oct 1780 Savannah GA m c 1729 1st) Jean Stobo dau of Rev. Archibald Stobo, who came to Carolina in 1700; m 2nd) 1746 Anne Barker dau of Sarah and Thomas, widow of William Skipper and James Ferguson d 25 Oct 1780 Wormsloe Plantation, Isle of Hope GA (near Savannah); m. 3 Annie (Ann Cuthbert) Graham, widow of the Hon Patrick Graham Governor of GA; m 4th Mary Jones dau of Hon. Noble Jones whose family home was Wormsloe (see End Note)

James Bulloch, was a highly educated man and said also to be a minister who emigrated from Glascow Scotland to Charleston in the Province of SC in 1729. From there he moved to Colleton Co where he lived as a Planter. He served as Justice of the Peace for Colleton 1735-1737 under His Majesty’s Government; and Special Agent to the Creek’s under the Great Seal Feb 28, 1741; member of the SC Assembly 1754.

In 1762, he moved to Georgia with his son, Archibald, President of Georgia 1776-7 married to Mary dau of Hon. Col James DeVeaux. He served as JP for Christ Church Parish in 1767, and as a member of the Provincial Congress in 1775. He died in Savannah Georgia in 1780.

He married c 1729 1) Jean Stobo; 2). Mrs. Anne Ferguson nee Barker af 1730 bef 1775; 3) 1775 Annie (Ann Cuthbert) Graham widow of the Hon Patrick Graham, Gov of GA; and 4) Mary Jones dau of Hon. Noble Jones, member of the Governor’s Council

In Georgia, he served as Commissioner of the Peace (Savannah District) 1764

Bulloch “The ancient and honorable family of Bulloch or Georgia came originally from Glascow Scotlant to Charleston SC about the year 1728/9. They appear to belong to Baldernock in Stealingshire. The Bullochs claim descent from Donald Balloch MacDonald, son of John Mor Tanaister, son of John MacDonald, 1st Lord of the Isles by Lady Margaret Stewart daughter of King Robert II.
