J.W. and Mary Alice Burleson bought his Dodge Touring car in 1916. On October 22, 1976 J.W. stated that it was the strongest or most powerful car he ever owned, unless it was his Buick that he bought after moving to Ponca City in the early 50s. At the time that he purchased the Dodge, there were no paved roads in most of Oklahoma. They drove the car to Kingfisher and after they left the place a hard storm came up and they drove in the runway of a barn near the Kingfisher Cemetery to escape the fury of it. JW and Alice were members of the Friendship Methodist Church of Pocasset, Oklahoma. Alice was christened at the Arcadia Methodist Church with the pastor J.B. McCombs in August 1921. While living in Bristow she was a member of the First Methodist Church. In Ponca City she did not attend church.
