About James Burn

After the death of Colonel Tayloe, his widow seems to have taken up residence in Lancaster County and cohabitated with James Burne; her brother-in-law, Joseph Tayloe, Gentleman, complained to the Lancster County court that they were "vehemently disposed of fornication and incontinency" in October 1715.

Mrs. Anne Tayloe, widow, seems to have married the said James Burne shortly thereafter and he died testate in Lancaster County in 1721. Anna Catherine Tayloe Ball and Samuel Ball were administrators of the James Burn/Bourne's estate.

(1) 1716, 14 Nov: At Lancaster Co., VA court, the county of Lancaster being indebted for 6,000 pounds of tobacco, ordered a levy of 5 3/4 pounds of tobacco by the poll to be collected by Capt. Richard BALL, Sheriff, from every titheable person in the county, and he to pay the same to the several creditors. On Mr. Thomas CARTER's list, Jos. TAYLOE was assessed for 6 titheables, and James BURN for 1 titheable.
