About James Burwell
was a son of Major Lewis Burwell, of "Carter's Creek," Gloucester county, and Abigail Smith his wife. He was born February 4, 1689, and died in 1718. He resided at "King's Creek" plantation in York county, where his tomb still stands. He was one of the justices for the county and a burgess for 1715 and 1718.
Mary Armistead married first James Burwell; they were the parents of Nathaniel and Lucy (who died shortly after her father). James died in September, 1718 and Mary married second Philip Lightfoot. Mary and Philip were the parents of William, John, Philip, and Armisted. Mary also left a will when she died
