James Cash "Jim" Penney

James Cash Penney was son of Eli Penney. James was the father of the infamous J.C. Penney of the catalog named after him.

James Cash Penney was the son of Eli, who's brother was William White Penney. Both these brothers of Anderson County, Ky were sons of the Rev John Penney, who brought Christianity to this county and later started and preached at many of still standing churches ie (Salt River Baptist, Goshen Baptist, had something to do even with Lawrenceburg Baptist and of course we have Penney's Chapel here too). William Penney's son was George Jordan Penney. So James Cash and George Jordan were 1st cousins. that makes George's daughter Jenny Rena Penney Johnson and the infamous J.C. Penney 2nd cousins.........and Jenny Rena Penney Johnson was my great grandmother! Her daughter Maggie Rena Johnson Gillis, married my grandfather George E. Gillis. My dad , Charles E Gillis is a direct descendant from the Penney line so, I am too. Unfortunately, William Penney and his father Rev John Penney, both died in the widespread cholera epidemic of 1833, right here in Anderson County.
