JAMES CLELAND OF KIP

James Clelandof Kip married Janet Newlands, the widow of Patrick Hamilton. Janet Newlands in the daughter of James Newlands of Kipps. [National Records of Scotland, Register of Sasines for the Sheriffdom of Lanark, reference RS42/10/412] According to John Anderson, Janet Newlands was a daughter of Matthew Newlands of Kipps but this is not supported by the Lanarkshire sasine records.
