The data base of Rhode Island Colonial War Servicemen, 1750-1762, listed James Covey as serving in Captian Brown's Company in 1759 during the French and Indian War. He served from 1756-1763 and fought in many battles, particularly in the Great Swamp campaign of 1761. For his service he was entitled to Bounty land in New York. James' early lot assignment was in the Phillipe Division lot #49 of Dutchess County, New York. The date of the chart is May 2, 1781. This would account for the family moving to New York.
