It gets very complicated here. It shows every other generation being from North Carolina/Virginia or England. I'm not sure that every other generation would be from across the Atlantic from each other. This genealogy goes back to a William Cowherd Cowart born in 1640 in England, dying April 8, 1705 in Bertie, North Carolina. There's a note about the "Cowherd" given name as an occupational name meaning herder of cows. Other notes about other descendents give "farmer", "gardener", and "indentured servant" as occupations, which leave me with doubts that such people would have had the wherewithal to cross the Atlantic multiple times. I'll find out later.
