Biographical Summary
"James, fifth Lord Balmerino and fourth Lord Coupar, born 24 November 1675, adopted the legal profession. He was called to the bar in 1703, and had a large practice. On 5th June 1714, a few days before the death of Queen Anne, he was appointed one of the Lords of Session, and assumed the style of Lord Coupar... He died at Leith 5 January 1746...
...He married (contract dated 28 April and 7 May 1718) Elizabeth, daughter of David Carnegie, fourth Earl of Northesk, who survived him till the 21 September 1767. They had no issue."
