James Grigsby, was the eldest son & first born of John Grigsby and first wife Rosanna Etchison. He was born 10 Nov 1748 in Culpeper Co., VA and died in Feb 1835. He last resided in Bledsoe Co., TN. In 1768, he married in Orange Co., Virginia to Frances Porter (abt. 1747 to abt. 1779), the daughter of Benjamin Porter and Ann Campbell. His step mother Elizabeth Porter Grigsby, was the sister of his wife Frances, AKA Franky.

They had 5 known Grigsby children:

http://www.archive.org/details/historyofvirgini01griguoft; 10-07; The History of the Virginia Federal Convention of 1788, by Hugh Blair Grigsby (1806-1881); edited by R.A. Brock, Richmond, Virginia Historical Society, 1890-1891, page vi and vii: "James Grigsby married twice, first, in 1768, Frances Porter, the sister of the second wife of his father, and settled at "Fancy Hill," Rockbridge County. Their eldest son, the father of Hugh Blair Grigsby, was christened Benjamin Porter Grigsby, but appears to have omitted the use of his second name. He was a trustee of Washington College, 1796-1807." I think if he married 3 times (per various other undocumented sites) that his grandson Hugh, would have known.

He married 2nd to Rebecca Anderson and had a son John in about 1787. Another source (Wm H Grigsby's) states : A "considerable time after the death of his first wife, James married Rebecca Wallace, widow of Col. Samuel Wallace, Rockbridge Co., parents of Elizabeth, wife of CHARLES Grigsby. They had 3 children: John, Etchison and Samuel.
