About James Harvey of Boyndis and Elrick

James Hervie of Boyndis/Boynds and Elrick = Agnes Lesley/Leslie (Married: 1540) (James: Approx 1525 - 1613, was Baronet of Elrick) (Agnes: ?, daughter of John Leslie 8th Laird of Balquhain, other children: Henry Hervie of Bondis, Isobella (who married William Leslie of Conrack, Janet (who married James Leslie 2nd Gudeman of Edenville), .Hervie (daughter who married Alexander Lesley), and Alexander) (source: various legal documents and memoirs of the period, some presented below, http://www.ebooksread.com/authors-eng/scottish-history-society-cn/p..., http://archive.org/stream/scottisharmsbein02stoduoft/scottisharmsbe..., http://digital.nls.uk/genealogical-collections-concerning-families/..., and http://www.patrickspeople.co.uk/ourfamily/names29.htm) Other children: Brothers of Andrew Hervie, 1550’s: 1. Hew Hervie (1570’s Advocate, married Bisse Brown, son: Andrew/Andro Hervie, 15/11/1573, David, 1575) 2. Thomas Hervie/Herwie (married Elspait Layng, sons: Alexander, Andrew/Andro, Gilbert, Patrik, Wilyem) (source: various legal documents and memoirs of the period, some presented below, Scottish national genealogical archives Scotlands People) (Other family names include similar ones to this Harvey line, such as Robert, and there is evidence of priests William and James in the early 17th century from these other branches)

Note: pictured here appears to be his coat of arms. These arms as well as the arms attached to his male forebears' profiles have all been listed with this Harvey line of fathers and sons up to and including him - it is not clear whose arms belonged to whom. People considered acceptable as nobility were allowed to chose their arms with the Lord Lyons in Scotland (according to Keith Brown in 'Noble Society in Scotland'). These arms and some of the earlier ones have been associated with Harveys in other parts of the UK, though often without any evidence.
