About James Haworth

James was a yeoman farmer and sheep raiser of Rockliffe Hall, Bacup, Lancashire. He was also a Quaker belonging to the Marsden Meeting. He was in the centre of the Quaker movement and was often persecuted for his beliefs.

By 1655, followers of George Fox had formed a pocket of Quaker enthusiasm around Marsden.

  • That he and Isobel were married in Pennsylvania may be a mistake, seeing as he died in England, and it was his son, George, who was called, "George, the Emigrant."
