About James Hilton

James Hilton served on HMS Octavia, (a 50 gun, fourth rate, Constance Class naval vessel). As a married man with two children, he was posted as Coast Guard to East Minard Coast guard Station, Dingle, County Kerry, Ireland, where he and his wife Elizabeth had two more children. Elizabeth died in Minard, 6 months after the birth of the youngest child, Samuel; and James and his four children returned to Brighton, England. On 31/05/1878, James was awarded a naval pension of 30 pounds per annum for life (Linda Allen has the original document).
