James L Beggs

James grew up in Kansas City, Ks, attended public schools. Left school to work in Fowler Packing Plant where he worked for 7 years. He was appointed assistant chief and captain in the fire department., where he remained for 10 years.In 1901-02, he was a salesman for Schwarzchild and Sulzberger packer. In 1902 he was elected on the Republican ticket to the office of clerk of the Common Pleas Court. He served 4 years, and 1 year as deputy clerk. Retired to take up the fire and general insurance business where he remained until 1913. He was elected to the office as Commissioner of Streets and Public improvements. He was also a stockholder and organizer of the Exchange Bank of Kansas City Ks.

On July 16, 1905 he married Cora H. Emery, from New York city, and daughter of H L Emery of Kansas City, and a well known railroad man. They have three children: Emery Leman Beggs, Raymond E. and James L.
