- "JAMES BETTNER LUDLOW, an Annual Member of the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society, died of heart disease in his sleep, at his home "Cottage Lawn," No. 18 Fairfield Place, Ludlow--on-Hudson, Yonkers, N.Y., on June 16, 1921, in the 63rd year of his age. Mr. Ludlow was born in Westchester, N.Y., on May 30, 1859; he was a younger son of the late Thomas W. and Frances (Fraser) Ludlow.
- "He was educated in private schools in Westchester County, and graduated, A.B., from Harvard University, Cambridge. Mass., in 1881; receiving his LL.B. in 1883. He was admitted to the Bar in New York State and was first connected with the firm of Strong and Caldwalader; but of later years maintained his own law offices.
- "Mr. Ludlow was an expert on real estate law. Most of his time was employed in the management of the estate owned by himself and his sister, embracing most of the waterfront of South Yonkers; he and his sister being the holders of the largest block of real estate in Yonkers. To the development of this property, as Ludlow Park, Mr. Ludlow devoted himself actively. Through his efforts the Hudson River pier and bulkhead lines
were extended to Yonkers. He presented to the State of New York the site of the Barge Canal terminal for Yonkers.
- * "He was a member of the University, Century, Union, Harvard, City and Downtown Clubs of New York City, and of the Pilgrim Club of London, England. He was a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York; of the New York State Bar Association; of the Archaeological Institute of America; of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; of the American Museum of Natural History; of the St. Nicholas Society, the Society of Colonial Lords of Manors in America and of the New York Historical Society.
- "Mr. Ludlow, in 1905, married Mrs. Louisa (Geary) Wood, a daughter of Major General John W. Geary, former Governor of Pennsylvania. His widow and two children survive him.
