After serving his county, Dallas County, Ala, for 12 years as sheriff, James McEwen Morrison moved to Water Valley, Miss. and became the first elder of the church now known as Water Valley Church, but organized as Octocoloffa Church. His son-in-law, Peter Johnson now a member of the state legislature, and father of Rev. Josephus Johnson of Victoria, Tx is a ruling elder in the same.
