James Melvin Coffin

James Melvin Coffin, son of James Henry and Mary Jane Coffin, was born April 11, 1886 in Adel, Iowa. Eighty-four years, five months and six days later he departed this life at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa.

He married Iva Coral Hoeye in Adel on December 6, 1905. To them were born five children, four of whom survive. Mrs. Coffin preceded him in death on Feb. 20, 1964; one son, Gordin Coffin died April 24, 1959; two brothers and three sisters, one grandchild and two great grandchildren also preceded him.

Mr. Coffin is survived by three daughters, Coral Lenze of Adel, Mrs. Gertrude Cates of Humboldt and Dorothy Devilbiss of Rippey. Also a son, Edgar of Spirit Lake. Two brothers, Virgil of Redfield and Clarence of Des Moines and two sisters Mabel Gibler, Paradise, California, and Ruth Macy, Vancouver, Washington, eleven grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren.
