James Montgomery, Sr.

James Montgomery was a son of Joseph Montgomery & Hannah McCullough. Born on 4/7/1793 in SC and Died 12/30/1864 Fulton Co., AR.

Husband of Elizabeth Montgomery (1787-1854).

James & Elizabeth Montgomery left NC and settled in Fulton Co., AR ca 1851. 4 of their 6 children made the trip with their parents: Joseph, Hannah, James & William. Samuel & his family joined them later.

James & his sons built a 2-story log cabin home on their land. Their migration to AR was recorded:

• 1810 Census, York Co.,SC.
• 1820 Census, Lincoln Co., NC.
• 1850 Census, Gaston Co., NC. James,HH #554, age 60, a Farmer; Elizabeth (57); Joseph (27); Samuel (25) Hannah (24) [Must be wrong as she was born in 1830]; James (21) and William (17).
• 1860 Census, Fulton Co., AR. James (70) Farmer/SC; James, Jr (32) farmer/NC; William (25) farmer/NC; Hannah (26) domestic/NC; A.W. Cook (27) farm laborer/VA and Hannah Carson (15) Domestic/TN.

Burial is in Humphries Cemetery, Glencoe, Fulton Co., AR.
