James Wesley Mullennix was born in Georgia on June 17, 1845. When he was 16 years old, he lied about his age and joined the Army of the Confederacy, being assigned to the 52nd Regiment of Georgia Infantry. He served until June 1864 <nowiki>----</nowiki>was captured and held prisoner at Camp Douglas until the close of the War Between the States. At the age of 24, Mr Mullennix came to Texas in a ox-wagon, arriving here on January 5, 1869. He had married Martha Caroline Higgins who of course, came with him. He also brought his wife's mother, Mrs. Lucinda Higgins, Frederick and Mary Jane, brother and sister of Martha Mullennix. They made their home with the Mullennix family for a number of years.
For more than seventy years the Mullennix family lived in Parker County, making their livelihood at farming, During this time eight children were born to Martha and James W. None of them have survived to this time, however their names are as follows; Sallie---married- - Frank Kirskey; Will -- married-- Florence Speck: James Messer, Married Pearl Douglas; Wright married May Banks; Joe married Nora Law; George W. married Maudie Reynolds; Lucy Nancy Jane married Bennett Charles Martin; and Edgar who died at age 16.
Mary Jane Higgins, sister of Martha Mullennix, married a Mr. James White. They had a daughter --- also named Mary Jane --- and she married Frank Brown. Mary Jane Higgins White died at the birth of her daughter. Mr and Mrs Mullennix took their little niece and raised her as their daughter, though she was known as Mary White.
James Wesley Mullennix lived to be 93 years 8 months and 29 days. he died in 1938, one of the small group of men who served with the Southern Confederacy. Members of the Sam Lanham Chapter --- United Daughters of the Confederacy --- draped his casket with the Confederate Stars and Bars battle flag. He is buried at Cox Cemetery.
