Peterson Peterson, James Prescott, born January 12, 1920 in Brown's Valley, Minnesota, son of Edward Otis and Ara Blanche Peterson. Jim passed away peacefully on August 22, 2004 in Deerfield Beach, Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Florence Leslie Peterson in April 1999; and also by his sister Ara L. Burwell and his brother Edward A. Peterson. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Peterson Goldstein of Fort Lauderdale, FL, sons, James Fargo Peterson of San Francisco, California; Jon Prescott Peterson of Mt. Airy, Maryland and six grandchildren: Daniel and Elisabeth Goldstein; Ara Peterson (child of James); and Jeffery, Timothy and Kristen Peterson (children of Jon). All will remember him dearly and with a quiet and enduring sense of pride. Jim attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, graduating with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1941. He worked for Westinghouse Electric for 42 years with assignments in Pennsylvania, New York and Connecticut, retiring from the company in the position of Regional Manager for the Northeastern United States on March 31, 1983. He then worked as a consultant to the power industry until December 1986. Jim met his future wife Florence Fargo at a wedding in Crookston, Minnesota the week of his university graduation, where she was the bridesmaid and he was the best man. They were married on June 22, 1942 in Crookston. They lived in various places including Buffalo, Windsor and Manlius, New York; and Glastonbury and New Canaan, Connecticut, before moving to Stuart, Florida for retirement. In October 2003 Jim moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL to be close to his daughter, Susan. In 1986 Jim and Florence bought a summer home "Hemlandet" ("homeland" in Swedish), an 1820 home built by a grant to a Swedish family on a bay off the Chesapeake in Mathews County, Virginia, where Jim enjoyed golfing, fishing, crabbing and oyster tonging. Jim loved people and routinely donated his time to community affairs. He took much joy in traveling and saw much of the world. He was a Master Mason. He was devoted to his family. He was a loving husband who dedicated himself to the care of Florence during her long and final illness. Services will he held later in Mathews, Virginia and then in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, where Jim will be interred next to his wife Florence and his mother Ara Blanche Peterson. Memorial donations in Jim's memory may be made to West Mathews Community League, c/o Stan Cath, Bohanon, VA 23021. Local arrangements entrusted to FRED HUNTER'S FORT LAUDERDALE FUNERAL HOME.
