Apprenticed at the age of 8yrs to a tin smith. His parents came from Yorkshire.
He and his wife retired to Boughton in Kent but when he became ill moved back to Edmonton. He died in North Middlesex Hospital and is buried in Church Street cemetary.
James Worthy Rich. I have his discharge certificate from the Royal Engineers dated 6 March 1896. He had served 1 year in the army and 5 years as a reservist. He is described as a "tin plate worker" and was engaged at the Chatham dockyards. The physical description says "Height 5'7", fair complexion, blue eyes, dark brown hair, face pitted with small pox". Place of residence: 2 Irwin Street, Farsley, Yorkshire.
A second certificate records James Worthy Rich re-joining the Royal Engineers as a volunteer on 22 June 1908. His occupation is shown as "tin and coppersmith" and he was employed by The Lamp Company, 10 - 14 Leonard Street, City Road, London. He was residing at 121 Maurice Avenue, Noel Park, Wood Green
In 1937 a cousin died and left his estate to to 2 cousins i of which was James Rich. The estate was allegedly the Isle of Wight but due to James inability to read and write the other cousin seems to have conned James and he received nothing.
Robert Hickey (son in law) and the family sought legal advice but the cost was too much and therefore the other cousin became the proud owner of the whole of the island.
