About James Harvey Rogers

Death of J. H. Rogers.

James H. Rogers, of White Cloud township, departed this life on Wednesday morning, March 3, 1897, at 2 o'clock. He had been sick only five days, of lagrippe and nervous prostration. The day before he took sick he was out in the field where the boys were breaking stalks. At times during the past six months he had complained of not feeling well.
The funeral services were held at the Pleasant Grove church, March 4, at 11 a.m., conducted by Rev. F. A. Grimes, pastor of the M. E. Church, South, of which Mr. Rogers was a member, and his wife also, the burial occurring after the services, in the cemetery adjoining the church.
Mr. Rogers was born in Indiana, August 18, 1830. He came to Nodaway county, locating where he lived and died, in 1871, from Edgar county, Illinois, where he lived for many years. He was married to Ann E. Brothers, in Illinois, on the 31st of March, 1861. Two children were born to this union, namely Mary, who was married to Caleb May, of this city, April 30, 1884, by Elder Cake, and Jacob W. Rogers, who lives three miles east of Maryville. Mrs Rogers died May 22, 1867, in Edgar county, Illinois, aged 27 years, 8 months and 4 days.
Mr. Rogers was married to Nancy Karr, a sister of J. T. Karr, October 22, 1868, by Elder George Owens. They came to Nodaway county in 1871. To this union were born four children as follows : John T., born October 8, 1870 ; James Edgar, born April 3, 1873 ; William, born October 24, 1875 ; and Jennie, born October 3, 1878.
James H. Rogers was an honorable man, a good husband and devoted father, and an exemplary citizen.
