About James Stent

James Stent was born in Lower Hutt, Wellington, to Charles Stent (1819-1891) and Sarah Stent (née Peck) on 25 November 1853. Both of his parents were born in England, emigrating separately to New Zealand and marrying in Wellington on 5 March 1849.

James married Catherine Blair in 1879 (1841-1881). It doesn't appear that they had any children together. Catherine died in 1881, possibly in childbirth, although she was 40 years old. On 29 December 1898 James married Sarah Ann Whitehead at Halcombe. There was about a 24 year age difference between Sarah and James. James and Sarah had eight children together. Sarah died on 19 February 1935 at Ohingaiti. James outlived both his wives, dying on 8 September 1938.
