J Polk Tarwater, aged 63, died suddenly Monday morning at his summer camp on White's Creek, 8 miles below Rockwood. For many years he had been prominent in business circles and was the president of the Harriman and Rockwood hosiery mills, and the James Supply Company, Chattanooga. He had been Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent of the Christian church and was a director of the Chamberlain Memorial Hospital in Rockwood. He was president of the First National Bank, Rockwood. His memorible fight to defend the Rockwood hosiery mill against the attack of the NRA finally resulted in the blue eagle being returned to the mill after being withdrawn for a few weeks. Gen Hugh Johnson ordered its return. Funeral services were held at the residence in Rockwood Tuesday at 4 p.m.
