James was born on November 11, 1739 in the town of Halifax, MA. He also lived in Brookfield before settling in Salem, NY in 1796. It is believed this is where he and his wife died.

Bridgewater, MA Vital Records indicates James Thompson (spelled Thomson) married Abilgail Allen on November 14, 1765. Abigail Allen b. 10/12/1744 Bridgewater, MA d. 12/04/1792 Salem NY was the daughter of Rebecca Reed and Nathan Allen also of Bridgewater. Abigail was the granddaughter of Samuel Allen. I have checked several sources and it appears their children were all born in Bridgewater, Ma.

Rebecca b. ? d. ? m. James Shearer in 1794 - this is my family line. Very little is known about Rebecca or James except that they lived in Verona, NY. I found them listed as members of the First Presbyterian Church, Verona in 1803 along with Cyrus Thompson, Rebecca's brother. This information confirms the "Thompson" book information regarding Cyrus Thompson - and Rebecca's son, Bela Shearer (that being Cyrus Thompson and Bela Shearer lived in Clarendon which is near Verona).
